Council Meetings and Minutes

Parish Council meetings are held in the Coates Village Hall starting at 7:30pm. Coates residents are encouraged to attend.

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday 8 May 2018.

Minutes of the last meeting, held on 5 March can be found to the right on this page. In summary:

There were the usual items, financials and reports and a planning application to consider. All planning applications are considered by councillors before submitting comments to the Cotswold District Council and which can be viewed on the CDC website.  Councillors also settled on the terms of a grant that has been agreed towards the village hall small meeting room refurbishment and new security alarm system.

Councillors made the decision to commission an audit and risk assessment of trees within the parish, following a number of instances of trees falling on Trewsbury Road.

There are a number of events scheduled to take place over the next couple of months, and discussed at the meeting, to which we would very much like participation from the parishioners.

Firstly, Coates Spring Clean, litter pick, has been arranged for the 7th April which coincides with the Cotswold District Council Great Cotswolds clean up competition. Bags, gloves and high visibility jackets for the clean-up work are provided and volunteers are needed, meeting at 10.00 outside the village hall. Further information is in a separate feature in The Watershed or contact Geoffrey Moore on 770869.

Councillors are also organising an exhibition and survey over the weekend 20-22 April, which takes place before the Annual Parish Meeting on the 23rd April. The aim is to seek the views of parishioners on living in Coates and how they see Coates in the future. There is a separate feature on this subject in this edition of The Watershed.

The public are encouraged to attend the Annual Parish Meeting and as part of the busy agenda there will be feedback on the weekends’ exhibition which includes a presentation by a representative from GRCC about village and neighbourhood planning. A representative from the Bathurst Estate office is attending to talk about the plans and work of the Bathurst Estate and there will also be a representative from Citizens Advice Stroud and Cotswold District to talk about their work. Refreshments are available and it takes place on Monday 23rd April at 7.30 in the village hall.

A long standing member of Coates Parish Council, Bob Allen, stood down as councillor, and he was thanked for the huge contribution he has made towards the work of the council over the past 10 years. He will be greatly missed.

The council will now be looking to fill this vacancy. This is a voluntary role which involves discussion and decisions about issues that affects parishioners’ everyday lives. We would very much like the opportunity to talk to anyone who wants to find out more about what is involved. There will be more information on the website and village noticeboard in due course or email
